Carlota Bias-Cut Silk Wedding Gown, Made Entirely Her Own
Am I allowed to have favourites?
Because this one is definitely up there.
Carlota came to me having already found a wedding dress she loved. The difficulty was that there wasn't the scope to personalise the original design in the way she wanted.
So rather than trying to recreate that gown, we treated it as a starting point.
We looked at what Carlota responded to — the simplicity, fluidity and the way the dress celebrated the body — and from there began developing something of her own.
The result was a silk bias-cut wedding gown with a beautifully low back and delicate organza neckline detail.
Restrained, incredibly feminine and unmistakably Carlota.
Starting With Inspiration
Sometimes custom bridal begins with a completely blank page.
And sometimes a bride already knows almost exactly what she loves.
For Carlota, the opportunity was not to make something dramatically different for the sake of it. It was to take the qualities she had responded to in her original inspiration and give ourselves the freedom to reconsider the details, proportions and finish specifically for her.
The gown was beautifully minimal, which meant every decision mattered.
A delicate organza detail softened the neckline, introducing transparency and lightness against the silk without interrupting the simplicity of the silhouette.
The Beauty of Bias
There isn't anywhere for a bias-cut silk gown to hide.
Without heavy embellishment, corsetry or a structured skirt competing for attention, fabric, cut and proportion become the design.
Carlota's gown was cut on the bias, allowing the silk to follow the body before releasing naturally through the skirt.
And this is where a gown that can appear deceptively simple on the hanger becomes something entirely different once it is worn.
The back was deliberately low and uninterrupted, allowing the line of the gown to remain beautifully clean.
Nothing needed to be added simply for decoration.
Every decision was about refining the silhouette.
It was quiet by design.
Made for Carlota
Sometimes a bride isn't looking for a completely different wedding dress.
She's already found something that speaks to her — she simply wants the freedom to take the idea further, adjust the proportions, explore a different detail or make choices that weren't available within the original design.
For Carlota, that freedom allowed the inspiration to become something personal.
And while I still adore the finished gown, I think part of the reason this one remains such a favourite is the experience of making it.
Carlota was wonderful to work with.
I loved our fittings, our conversations and the time we spent together slowly refining everything until the dress stopped feeling like a design we were working on and simply became her wedding gown.
Three Years Later
Three years later, I can look at these photographs and still love the restraint of this dress.
The silk. The movement. That low back. The almost weightless organza against the neckline.
But mostly, I remember making it.
Some gowns stay with you because of the design.
Others because of the person you made them for.
Every now and then, you're lucky enough to get both.
