Piper + Blake: A Custom Wedding Gown at Mewburn Park

There is something particularly special about creating a gown for a bride who arrives with a clear idea of how she wants to feel.

For her December wedding to Blake at Mewburn Park, Piper had fallen in love with a bridal look she simply couldn't find in Australia. Custom design gave us the opportunity to take that initial inspiration and create something entirely her own.

The Dress

At the heart of Piper's gown was a sweetheart silk organza corset, constructed with spiral steel boning channels and finished with delicate corded lace appliqué.

The back was kept beautifully considered: a concealed zip provided the structure we needed, while covered buttons gave the finish of traditional bridal couture.

DETAIL PAIR

For the skirt, we chose double heavy satin. Its weight created a beautifully clean fall through the body while still giving Piper plenty of movement.

The final piece was a long silk chiffon scarf — light, sheer and deliberately softer against the structure of the corset and satin skirt.

Rather than recreating the gown that first inspired Piper, we used it as the beginning of the conversation. The finished dress brought together her original vision with the corsetry, fabrication and construction techniques that have become signatures of my work.

And, ultimately, it looked entirely perfect on her.

Against the gardens, old brickwork and open landscape of Mewburn Park, the simplicity of the silhouette really came into its own.

A little romantic, a little modern and wonderfully unfussy.

And as the afternoon unfolded, the silk chiffon scarf became part of the movement of the photographs rather than simply an accessory to the dress.

These are the kinds of details I love most in custom bridal — pieces that look beautiful standing still, but become even better once the bride actually begins living in them.
