Angela + JamesA State Library of Victoria Wedding — The 35mm Film Edit

There are some dresses that carry a little more history than others.
I’ve known Angela since she was a little girl, and over the years I’ve had the joy of making dresses for some of the important moments in her life. So when she asked me to create her wedding dress, it felt incredibly special.
For her January wedding to James at the State Library of Victoria, we created something romantic, playful and very Angela — a pearl-flowered mini dress transformed for the ceremony with a sweeping overskirt of shimmering tulle.
And while there are beautiful digital photographs of the day, this is their wedding through a slightly different lens.
The 35mm film edit.
Photographed by It’s Beautiful Here, these are the wonderfully imperfect frames — grain, movement, deep shadows, brilliant Melbourne summer light and the occasional unexpected flare.

A dress made for two moments
At the heart of Angela’s custom wedding look was a mini dress covered in delicate three-dimensional pearl-beaded flowers.
For the ceremony, we added a sweeping overskirt of shimmering tulle, transforming the mini into a soft, full-length silhouette with beautiful movement.
Later, the overskirt could simply come away to reveal the mini beneath — a second look without a second dress.
Paired with Harriet Wilde shoes, the finished look felt feminine, romantic and just a little playful.
On film in Carlton Gardens

Before the ceremony, Angela and James wandered through Carlton Gardens in Melbourne with It’s Beautiful Here behind the camera.
Shot on 35mm film, the gardens take on an almost nostalgic quality — saturated summer greens, brilliant blue skies and sunlight spilling unapologetically across the frame.

Some photographs are beautifully composed. Others are grainy, sun-drenched, caught mid-movement or streaked with rainbow flare.
Exactly as film should be.

From Carlton Gardens to the State Library

From the gardens, it was on to the State Library of Victoria for the ceremony and celebrations.
Marble staircases, soaring windows, old books and beautiful afternoon light created a wonderfully grand backdrop, while the 35mm photography kept everything intimate and a little imperfect.

And somewhere amongst all these photographs is the part of this wedding that means the most to me.
The little girl I once made dresses for, all grown up and standing beside James in the wedding dress I had the honour of making for her.
Some commissions stay with you.
This will be one of them.
